The Volunteer Program in rivers of the LIFE IREKIBAI Project joins again the celebration of the World Environment Day of the United Nations Organization. Around the date of commemoration, on June 5, the LIFE IREKIBAI project has supported various actions of environmental volunteering in rivers.
Specifically on June 1, 4, 6, 8 and 22, 2019 in Arano, Goizueta, Doneztebe, Mugairi, Lesaka, Elizondo, Lekaroz, Arizkun and Bera.
As a result, 266 volunteers from these localities cleaned garbage, plastics and other waste in different regattas of the Urumea and Baztan-Bidasoa basins. The objective of these environmental volunteering activities is to promote the active participation of the population in the conservation and improvement of the fluvial ecosystem, and to inform and sensitize the population through knowledge of their river and its surroundings.
