The LIFE IREKIBAI project, on the occasion of the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network, organized a follow-up meeting of the project in the ZEC Señorío de Bertiz and then a visit to the river was made to know in situ the actions carried out in the demolition of the dam from the old Ituren fish farm, which was located on a stretch of the Ezkurra River, located on the river corridor that joins 2 ZEC Río Bidasoa and ZEC Belate spaces. The objective of this demolition has been to improve the connectivity of the river, facilitating the transfer of the species and reducing the flooding in this section.
The European Day of the Natura 2000 Network was created by the European Union for the conservation of biological diversity. “The simple flutter of a butterfly can change the world” is the motto of the current campaign that calls for citizen participation to have a gesture with this network of biodiversity conservation areas.
